Sleep is one of the most important things you can do, it effects both your psychical and mental well being. Unfortunately millions of people do not get enough sleep a night, which leads to forty percent of adults to severe day time sleepiness (as said by the National Sleep Foundation) which will obviously effect your life. If you are experiencing irritability, moodiness or disinhibition you are
experiencing a minor lack of sleep. I would suggest taking time out tonight to plan when you want to go to bed and get ready before hand so when your head hits the pillow you will fall asleep immediately. However if you allow this to progress you will start to experience apathy, you will speak slower, your emotional response will be off, your memory will be
impaired and you will no longer be able to easily multitask. Again go to sleep immediately, because if you allow this to continue you will experience hallucinations or micro sleeps (which means your body will fall asleep for 5 to 10 seconds at a time which can be dangerous if you are driving).
Most people only need about 8 hours of sleep a night, which means they also need to spend 16 hours awake. Some other people only need as little as 6 hours a night, while on the other side some need 10 hours to function fully. Set a weekend to just sleep in two days in a row and see how much sleep you got both those nights (chances are you will sleep more on Friday night because of the early hours you need to wake up on during the week).
The causes of sleep deprivation vary from person to person, stress is probably the most common factor. Sometimes it is caused by high blood pressure, emotional disorders (such as depression and bipolar) or drug and alcohol abuse. In rare cases it is cause by extreme emotional duress which will cause insomnia, sleep apnea or sleep paralysis. The environment can really affect how you sleep as well as well as health problems. If you try to make decisions while sleepy it will affect your moral and personal choices, for instance you may decide that speeding is okay because you need to get there on time, or you may even just skip work.
One way to fix this is to buy a new mattress, some people just can't get comfortable on their old mattress and can't fall asleep. Which means it is time to trade up! So try out something that will guarantee you to get a good nights sleep like the Tempur-Pedic or IComfort. We have both at American Mattress Gallery, so come in today!
